About Maria Depenweiller, P.H.Ec.
I am a Ryerson University graduate from Foods and Nutrition program. After graduation, I have worked for several companies in food and nutraceutical industries before starting my own business.
I became an Ontario Home Economics Association (OHEA) member in my final years of studies, attracted by the OHEA Newslink pamphlets that were always present in our faculty office.
I have kept my OHEA membership through the years as it helped me to form an idea of what various career paths aside from dietitian are available for professional home economists with similar educational background as I have. This membership helped me to shape up my career goals.
Being a Professional Home Economist allowed me to express my knowledge and share my skills in a variety of different settings, and find special focus on areas that are most important to me personally.
For quite a long time I was a regular member, joining the Executive board in the capacity of vice president of membership in 2018. I decided to become member of the board after a rather convincing presentation by past members at one of the annual general meetings (AGM). Seeking new work experience and thinking of developing new set of skills, I thought the position might be useful for me in the future and help expand my network.
In the future, I hope Professional Home Economists will continue to help families and individuals to develop and keep up essential skills for healthy and happy lifestyle.
