April Programme at Re4m
On Wednesday, April 10th, 10 of us enjoyed an interesting hands-on workshop at Re4m -an entrepreneurial company owned and operated by a young woman, Heather Jeffery. She uses reclaimed materials from the community to design and build beautiful storefronts, interior furnishings and products. We started our morning with coffee and snacks, in the shop, where Heather gave us a short educational talk on sustainability and the history of the company. We had many questions which Heather very amicably answered for us.
The highlight of the 2 hours was the opportunity to use reclaimed materials to make our own project to take home. We had been given 3 project choices that Heather had prepared materials for. Most of us worked on a simple wooden board sign with an optional rope. The hanging sign has dowels or hooks to store small items. Heather personalized each board with wooden words, or messages of our choice laser-cut. One member chose a coffee sack mounted on a wooden board to be used as wall art. Our pride beams in the photo! We ended our day with a lovely lunch at nearby Allo Mon Coco restaurant in Billing’s Bridge Mall. For more info visit the website www.re4m.ca. Submitted by Betty Young
