Professor Sidiga WASHI, Ph.D. (1955 - 2018) Professor Sidiga Washi was the International Federation of Home Economics (IFHE) President from 2016 to 2018. The Ontario Home Economics Association (OHEA) extends sincere condolences to her friends, family and colleagues. Professor Washi was an expert in the field of Nutrition Education, Community Nutrition and Family Sciences. With a background in Zoology-Chemistry from the University of Qatar, she went on to complete a Ph.D. in Family & Consumer Sciences Education with emphasis on Nutrition, at Iowa State University, USA. Among other accomplishments, Professor Washi served as Advisory Board Member for the Family and Consumer Sciences Leadership Academy of Iowa State University, President of the Sudanese Environmental and Nutrition Society, Chair of the Board for the Strategic Initiative for Women in the Horn of Africa, Member of the Council for Africa in Democracy and Good Governance, Gambia, and Board Member of Equality Now International, New York.
Dr. Washi's professional experience spanned consultancies at Harvard University and UNICEF. She held high ranking academic leadership positions at the King Saud University in Saudi Arabia as well as at the United Arab Emirates University. At the time of her passing, she served as Director for Quality Assurance and Institutional Assessment and as Professor of Community Nutrition at the School of Health Sciences at the Ahfad University for Women in Khartoum, Sudan.
